Zhou's Kitchen

Zhou's Kitchen High Tea buffet at Square 2- 2.45pm till 5pm (last order at 4.30pm)

Cost?
Adult $12.80 ++
Child $9.80 ++

Personally, I'm quite a fan of buffets because during a buffet, it's a time for a good gathering among friends and it's a time for you to try and sample a larger variety of food with no limitation and at a fixed price!

Anyway, this simple entry is just going to feature some dishes (with little elaboration) along with my ratings.

Appetiser- Keropok! (We didn't know we have to pay extra for this=.=) Very tasty leh! Very addictive as well!

Drunken chicken
3.5/5

Steamed shrimp dumpling
Very good prawns but pretty dry skin.
3.5/5

Steamed pork and shrimps dumplings
Very tasty!! Order more if your stomach allows you to=)
4/5

Sliced pork trotter with jelly fish
Well, I ordered this for the jelly fish instead of the pork.
Jerry fish was pretty tasty but it didn't impress me.
Overall, 3/5

Sliced boiled pork with tasty garlic sauce
I can barely taste any garlic in this dish. It's pretty plain.
3/5

Steamed beancurd topped with spicy minced meat sauce
Personally I quite like this dish but my boyfriend finds it too plain.
I would give a 3.75/5

Vietnamese style spring rolls
Very VERY crispy skin but they weren't very generous with the amount of fillings though. Overall, it's still pretty tasty=)
3.75/5

Steamed pork ribs with black bean sauce
Usually you'll find the amount of meat on pork ribs pretty miserable. However for this case, there were pretty little traces of fats but the portion of meat was bigger than those usual ones that we buy from dim sum shops. A little lack in flavour but still acceptable.
3.5/5

Deep fried chicken marinated with prawn paste sauce
Pretty average. Till the point I can't remember much about this dish.
3.5/5

Hot and sour soup
Pretty average as well. It would be better if the soup is it's more spicy- especially for a spicy eater like myself.
3.5/5

Steamed chicken claw with chilli sauce
It's just skin with fats. People on diet shouldn't order this dish. The sauce was pretty tasty though.
3.5/5

Steamed BBQ pork bun.
The standard for their char siew bun seems to have dropped. It used to have more fillings and the taste was stronger in the past.
3/5

Mini egg tart
Again, same as their char siew bun, in the past this dish used to be better. Now the egg seems much dryer (as though it has been made and left there for ages before it's being served).
3/5

Xing Hua wanton soup
My boyfriend finds this a little plain whereas I found it not bad. Especially the skin of the wanton which is soft and pretty silky. They weren't generous with the amount of meat given though.
3.5/5

Rice dumpling with sesame filling.
This dish doesn't look appetising initially but looks are really deceiving! The dumpling is really soft but too bad it isn't very kissable due to the peanut toppings=p
4/5

Wok fried french bean with spicy dried shrimp.
Tasty but pretty oily. Somehow I feel that the shrimp topping seems to have spoilt the taste of the french beans which tasted pretty good on it's own.
3.75/5

Crispy fish skin with salted pepper.
Not a dish for those with weak kidneys because this dish is really salty. Yet, it makes me wanting to eat more of it!
3.75/5

Pan fried carrot cake.
Pretty bad. Lack taste, lack texture.
2/5

Fried rice with chicken and salted fish.
Sad to say, this is one of the worst tasting fried rice I ever ate.
Tasteless fried rice. Yet they were VERY generous with the portion.
2/5

Fujian style meat roll (Wu xiang)
Again, looks are pretty deceiving, this wu xiang packs quite a punch! Too bad I was too full during that point of time if not I would have ordered more dishes of this!
4/5

Pan fried chive dumpling with chicken.
Not a fan of chives. This dish is really oily and not appetising for me.
2.5/5

Malay fried noodles
Interestingly, this is a chinese resturant but yet it's malay fried noodles is WAY MUCH BETTER than the chinese fried rice. This is a must to order if you love mee gorengs- with a hint of chinese style.
4.5/5!

Sesame cream
Well, it seems to be very difficult to find very good places which sells good sesame cream. Up till now I've yet to find one which really satisfy my tastebuds. This one over here lacks the texture because its too watery. However, the taste managed to cover up for it's flaw (thankfully).
3.75/5

Chilled mango cream with sago and pomelo
Wow wow wow! This is a must to order dessert if you're coming over for this buffet because I managed to slurp up every bit of this cleanly even though my stomach was on the verge of exploding! Creamy and very flavour-ful!! Yum!
4.5/5

It seems as though their desserts are better than their main dishes over at Zhou's kitchen!
I really jia pa liao when I went to eat all of those during my visit there=)

Cottage Waffle Place

Cottage Waffle Place (Suntec City)

Hidden(alright, not exactly hidden but it's not very visible) on level 3 (I don't know which tower, but I think it's the one with Carrefour or the tower before it), Cottage Waffle Place is a very lovely place for gatherings of couples and friends.

Well, normally a shop will either sell waffles, or chocolate fondue (except for the Sweet stone parad-ice over at Golden Mile), this shop sells both of them! What we've tried was the couple fondue which....- description can be read below=)
What's the MOST amazing thing over here at Cottage Waffle is the refillable ( <- YES, you can read this again ) swiss chocolate!!

Well, the pot of chocolate that was served initially was clearly insufficient for chocolate lovers like me!
Well, to rate the chocolate, I would say that the chocolate definitely isn't as rich as the one over at Sweet Stone Parad-ice which used Belgium chocolates for fondue. Over here, the chocolate dip is pretty watery, taste pretty milky and not those dark-chocolately type of chocolates. Yet, it's satisfying enough for us to dip our plates of waffles, ice creams and fruits onto this sinful delight!
Rating for chocolates?
3.25/5

Here's the platter along with the mini plate of nuts. Variety of fruits was VERY limited- there were only green apples and bananas to start (and end) with!
The 5 mini scoops of ice cream melted pretty fast but the ice cream was really fantastic=)

What about the waffles? Well, I would say these are one of the better tasting Singapore style waffles that we can find=) It isn't those Belgium waffles that you can find over in daily scoops or Gelare. Instead, it's those mainsteam types where bakery shops like Prima Deli sells. The waffles over here still remains crispy even though it has been exposed to air for quite some time (we were busy saving the melted ice cream you see.. ) and the taste was just right, not overly sweet and neither does it taste like dough.

I would give the waffles alone, a 4/5! =)

Now now, here's the highlight!
We ordered a waffle burger! It's the first time we heard of such a delight and I couldn't resist but to try it!
The grilled chicken tasted really really soft and tender! It's as though it's boiled to the exact second which it's cooked!
That was the highlight of the waffle. The cheese and the in house special sauce blended really well and the entire "burger" tasted very SHIOK.
Rating?
4.5/5!
Drawback? It's TOO thick for you to bite onto everything at one go.

A very romantic place to get your waffles desire fixed. Say yes to waffles! ^^
